June 7, 2022

Congratulations to Tracy Hughes, LPN, Women’s Health Clinical Manager at Tandem Health Obstetrics & Gynecology, on receiving the 2022 South Carolina Primary Health Care Association's (SCPHCA) Nurse of the Year Award. She was presented with the award at the 28th Annual SCPHCA Virtual Clinical Network Retreat.

The South Carolina Primary Health Care Association (SCPHCA) is the unifying organization for Community Health Centers (CHCs) in South Carolina. Tandem Health is one of 23 CHCs in South Carolina. The award is given to recognize an outstanding nurse in the state who has demonstrated excellence in practice in a community-based health care setting. The nurse must have demonstrated a level of excellence in their nursing role that sets them apart in a distinctive manner.

Tracy demonstrates a level of excellence in her nursing role that sets her apart in a distinctive manner. This has been made clear by her professional balance of life skills and job skills. These are traits that should be a requirement for any leader, but unfortunately, these traits are not always commonly practiced at the leadership level. Tandem Health is so fortunate to have Tracy and her leadership style that excels in both.

Tracy has been a part of the Tandem Health team for over twenty years. She has earned a formal leadership role in Women’s Health because she has the life skills that demonstrate integrity, competency, initiative, developed communication skills and her commitment to continuous learning and growth.

Most importantly, she always puts the patient first when making decisions and recommendations. She is known to say to the team “Think of the patient as one of your family members”. Tracy’s skills define the quality that today’s healthcare facilities need, the attitude nurses should aspire to have and the reason patients return to her care.

This is the third year in a row that a member of the Tandem Health team was awarded the SCPHCA Nurse of the Year Award.

Congratulations Tracy!
